TL; DR – MEASURE TWICE AND CUT ONCE.
I’ve tested for The Sew Sew before and appreciate how creative she is with her zero and low-waste patterns. I jumped at the chance to test a Low-Waste Hoodie pattern that looked so cool and effortless. And, finally found a use for this grey wool stretch woven!
I didn’t have quite enough fabric, so I had to improvise the hood. The original pattern called for four pieces to “line” the hood and create a channel to put the string through. I had to shorten the curve of the hood and also not cut the lining pieces. Instead I lengthened the front just a little to create a fold-over channel, which worked perfectly!
What didn’t work perfectly were the sleeves. I don’t know where I messed up on my pattern tracing but none of the sleeve pieces were the same size. And when I made them all the same size, the hand hole was too small. I ended up shortening the sleeves to get the right width, and thankfully, I inherited short arms from my grandmother. In other words, once I added the cuffs, you can’t (really) tell that the sleeves were a disaster.
I’d make this again, but I’d measure twice and cut once lol.
