TL; DR – SHOW MORE FAT MODELS WEARING THE GARMENT
I follow a lot of fat sewists on Instagram. Because I’m a fat sewist. Usually, when a pattern launches, there will be A LOT of straight-sized examples, front and center, with plus-size versions buried down deep as you scroll through examples on the pattern-maker’s site. One of the reasons I offer to test patterns is because I want other plus-size sewists to see what a pattern would look like on bodies like theirs.
(Exception: Muna and Broad and Cashmerette. But if you want to see what I mean, go check out Curvy Pattern Database monthly roundup of patterns that go up to a 60″ hip. This is an invaluable resource for plus-size sewists and is NOT a critique of the list or site, just that about half of the patterns every month DO NOT have available a sample photo on someone who is actually up to a 60″ hip.)
So when my IG feed was filled with a new size-inclusive dress only on plus-size sewist and the pattern designer herself is plus-size, well, I was not not going to buy it and make it. Here is the Juniper dress from Tiana Herring Patterns. I don’t think I’ve ever chuckled as much as reading through the instructions; they are funny and encouraging! I didn’t make any mistakes!
Anyway, here is the result using an Ikea fabric. It looks shorter than it is, so that’s adorable! MORE DOPAMINE DRESSING!
