TL; DR – I need to make more of Maison Victor Patterns.
Eyelet fabric is all the rage right now, and once I got some eyelet fabric, I had to set about deciding what pattern to use. I didn’t want it to be too…cutesy as the fabric was already a little precious. I was going through my patterns when I settled on the Jewel dress from Maison Victor. You’ll need to create an account to access the patterns, but it’s well worth it, given how well-drafted these patterns are.
Are they only available in French and Dutch? Yes. But honestly, especially for this pattern, if you’ve made a shirt with a collar because, the illustrations are enough to get you through. Google Translate is also pretty good.
The bodice fit is PERFECT, and the skirt is lovely. It would be easy to add pockets, but I thought pockets would look weird on an eyelet dress. I downloaded so many Maison Victor patterns (because who knows when they’ll stop being free – looking at you Fabrics Store!), and every single one of them (ok I’ve only made two) have been a winner. I really should try to reach for more of them when I’m looking for something to make, especially given I know the fit will work.
Anyway, I look adorable, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. Cute, but not cutesy.
