TL; DR – Ultimate “scrap”-buster of a pattern!
I really enjoy how the Tie Dress is put together. Especially for the top, it’s a number of “smaller” rectangles put together to create the look of the top. Ideally, there isn’t a shoulder seam with the side-pieces and the cuff piece, but of course it’s easy enough to add one, making it so that you can use even “smaller” rectangles.
Which makes it great for upcycling and “scrap” busting. I put scrap in quotations because while sure, you could do a great patchwork version of this dress, really, I’m talking about larger pieces that aren’t quite scraps, but also aren’t big enough to really do anything meaningful with.
Anyway, I had a number of thrifted Liberty of London for Target sun dresses in this lovely print, and I’ve been wanting to remake them into something I could wear. I finally realized that the deconstruction dresses gave me the perfect pieces for the Tie Dress. I used three of the larger skirt panels to make the skirt for my dress, which meant sacrificing the pockets, but it was worth it.
Overall I used four dresses, and I still have some meaningfully-sized scraps left, which I’m probably going to use for pockets or lining on other projects.
But look at how cute I look!
