Pattern Review: Loviisa Dress from Named Clothing

TL; DR – Swing dress or tent?

You all know I’m a sucker for a shirt dress. And a sucker for a 60s-style dress. When Named Clothing released their new Loviisa dress, I was all-in. Early tester reviews said it was *short* so I added a couple of inches to the pattern. The pattern is made for heavier weight woven (like denim) and I had this heavier cotton print from Mood Fabrics that I thought would be perfect!

The directions were perfect (as always). I had a massive user-error when I realized got the bust darts wrong AFTER I HAD PUT ON THE POCKETS so please don’t look too closely at those. But making the dress longer kinda made it…bigger (which makes sense for a dress that flairs out). I wanted a little more shape, and rather than adding back darts, I added some elastic in the center back lined up with the small of my back.

I like the big placket, the larger collar, and the sleeves. I’m not sure I love the tent-like look on me. Maybe I try a slightly shorter version to get the happy medium. But, given everything (*waves hands around at recent events here in the USA*), dopamine dressing is it.
