TL; DR – I should make skirts more often.
October is #sewingcpd2022, or Sewing Curvy Pattern Database 2022. The Curvy Pattern Database was started by Sarah (aka @curvysewingdatabase on Instagram) and it is a database of size-inclusive sewing pattern designers, meaning they have sewing patterns available for those with a 60″ hips or higher. Anyway, this is one of those sewing challenges where you are invited to sew a pattern from one of the designers in the database to promote size-inclusive patterns.
Anyway, I needed a skirt, I remembered that I had the free Veronika skirt pattern from Megan Nielsen Patterns. It’s great because a) it’s free, b) it’s size-inclusive, c) it’s for wovens or knits, and d) HOLY SHIT IT IS EVERY EASY TO SEW.
If you use a knit (which I did), you don’t need to put in a zipper, and so it’s literally two seams and the waistband. That’s it. The ponte didn’t even need hemming (and lort did I not want to sew that curved hem). I was able to assemble the pattern, cut the fabric, and sew it in about two hours. TWO HOURS. TWO FREAKING HOURS.
So if you need a skirt and only have a few hours, this is the skirt for you. It’s cute, it’s comfortable, it’s super-simple.
