Free Pattern Review: Portia Party Dress by Rebecca Page

TL; DR – I still need to work on V-necks, I should just bite the bullet and learn how to use my serger.

This was supposed to be Entry 11 for the #sewfrugal22 challenge, but alas, the last week of March was absolutely awful and I ran out of time. I had been trying to figure out a suitable pattern for this gorgeous abstract floral jersey fabric, and settled on the Portia Party Dress by Rebecca Page (I’m linking to the entire collection of free patterns because they are all lovely).

It was straightforward enough to cut and sew, but it’s been a while since I’ve sewn any jersey knit fabric (ok, so like a month), so it was a bit awkward. And I still can’t do a decent v-neck, although this is really only my second attempt. And as much as I don’t mind using the zig-zag stitch in order to avoid trying out my serger, it really leaves something to be desired on the neckline, which is lumpy.

Having said all that, I love the dress, it is super-comfy and a lot of fun. I don’t know if I’d make this pattern again, but that’s only because I have, like, a million other patterns I’m dying to try.
