TL; DR – You don’t really need a pattern for a tiered skirt, but it helped me, and this one is great.

So I was wandering around Joann’s while the daughter went crazy two stores over at Micheal’s with all of the witchy, Halloween dropping and I came across this fabric. This fabric is EXACTLY in my daughter’s aesthetic, and she was next to me in the store mere seconds after I had texted her a picture of the fabric. She wanted a tiered skirt, and she almost never asks me to sew anything for her, so of course I said yes.

There are plenty of tutorials that give you measurements to just draw on the fabric, but I like to still have a pattern. I found this free tiered skirt pattern from Georgette Patterns that isn’t size inclusive, but gives me a template to grow from (pun intended). But I didn’t have to worry about that for my daughter and went ahead and made it with the pattern pieces unaltered.

The fabric was the hardest part of the project because it is a silky fabric that RUNS. I used the smallest needle, brand-new, but still got tons of pulls and runs. Next time, I’ll try using a ball point needle (as suggested by the Internet) to see if that helps reduce the amount of runs (as now my daughter wants me to make her and her BFF matching button-up shirts with the fabric).

Anyway, it’s eight rectangles of various sizes and an elastic for the waistband. It took me less than an afternoon to sew it.

And, the daughter LOVES IT. Wore it for the first day of school. She’s even trusting me to make her her homecoming outfit!

I guess I’m winning the mom-game right now, at least in our house!
