A Giant Comedy of Errors

TL; DR – Hey, sometimes your measurements change. That’s it. That’s the lesson.

It started with a FB ad. I saw this from H&M, loved it, and thought, I’m not paying $50 for that – I can make it!

I love the whole collarless wrap jacket-style dress. I have grey fabric, and set out to find a pattern. All of my jacket dress patterns have collars, but I did find a free pattern that was woven fabric wrap dress, but if I took out the darts and extended the shoulders, it would work!

So I did. And I went by the measurements provided and the measurements I assumed I had. I was determined to make it perfect. Mid-way through, I decided, you know what? I’m going to make it a tie closure. I hacked this pattern, make it work, top stitched EVERYTHING, added freaking pockets, and…

THE FUCKING THING WAS TOO SMALL.

Not just too small to be oversized. But too small. Like, it wouldn’t work as a dress if I tried.

I was crushed. But while I cried, I kept going and finished it. I re-took my measurements and hey, look, I put on two inches, which…

Yeah, not feeling great.

So, it doesn’t look at all like the picture. I still think I could do it, but…I’d have to grade the pattern out because apparently 5XL still isn’t big enough?

Anyway, it’s not that bad, is it?
