TL; DR – This is a lot of dress, but what a lovely pattern it is!
I’ve been sitting on this one for a while. I was a tester for the new extended size range for the Asteria Dress from Jennifer Lauren Handmade. I have to say that I was really excited to test this pattern, if only so I could finally have a proper-fitting bodice. It comes with multiple cup sizes already ready to go, so no full-bust adjustment!
Except I have to do a broad back adjustment now on my patterns.
I meant to do just a plain, square-neck bodice, but cut along the wrong lines, and ended up making it with buttons instead, mostly because I didn’t have any more of this Katie Kortman fabric to re-do the bodice piece (but enough to re-do the facing, thankfully, but I could have used a contrasting fabric for that if push came to shove).
Anyway, the bodice has TWO bust darts, but it fits like a dream. I did get my wish for a perfectly (save for the back adjustment) bodice to go with the lovely box-pleated skirt with in-seam pockets. I think next time I’ll make the ties a little wider, but that’s just my preference.
Anyway, I’m still not sure of the fabric choice here, but I do love the fit and the look of the dress, so that’s a win! I’m so happy I got to test this pattern and that it is now available in an extended size (and bust!) range!
